Serve Peace

As a community of faith that is working to authentically engage in what we believe, there are abundant volunteer opportunities.  We would love to have you partner with us in this work.  Opportunities include:

Worship – from lectors who read scriptures, to communion assistants and ushers, there are lots of ways to be involved in worship.  In addition, there are background tasks like communion preparation and seasonal decorating that require assistance.

Youth & Education – from service events to mission trips to educational events, we need people of all ages to care about helping our youth grow in faith.

Senior Support – seniors sometimes need rides to health care appointments, need someone to bring a meal, come to visit and/or support small tasks-yard work etc.  We need people who are willing to help those that have been serving others when they were younger and more capable of active ministry.  The reward is a relationship with experienced people who almost always have wisdom to share.

Common Table Cafe – every week during the academic year, we create a meal for our community on Wednesday nights.  Although we have a generous donor who provides funding for food, we need people to set up, design a menu, serve, clean-up, etc.   Carrie Miller is the coordinator of this ministry.

Coffee Hour – every Sunday we serve coffee and donut holes along with other wonderful treats.  If you are willing to bring some treats, or help with clean-up, we would be grateful for your partnership in welcoming people to Peace.

Music – if you love music and can sing or play an instrument, there is a place for you in the music ministries of Peace.  Contact our Music Director, Sherry Johnson for ways you might want to be involved.

Property Management – are you a handy fixer of things, a painter or a specialty cleaner for projects?  We would love to have your support to maintain our gathering place.

Landscape Support –  are you a gardener or a  flower pot expert?  Would you like to adopt a section of garden to care for during a growing season?  We would love your partnership on keeping things beautiful in our yard.

A Hand UP – a ministry to help those with particular kinds of needs find their way forward.

Quilting Group – a group gathers at Peace to create quilts out of abundant leftover fabric that can be used in so many ways—as warm blankets, as gathering space to eat on the floor, as room dividers in small homes around the world.  If you can cut things, tie knots OR sew, please join us to share the goodness of this service group.

Knitting Group – an ecumenical  group of knitters gathers to make prayer shawls for people who are dealing with health issues, aging issues, loneliness challenges, etc.  Please join the group for fellowship as well as to be a part of this service adventure.

Collaborative Partnership with Wartburg Seminary (our Intern) – we are partnering with our Synod and ELCA seminaries to raise up leaders for the church.  Currently we are committed to a four year program to sponsor a seminary student who is on track for ordained Word and Sacrament ministry.  This requires financial support as well as cheering the process as we pioneer a new way of shaping the future of the church.  As the shortage of clergy has effected our own search for a pastor, we are aware of the need for this ministry.

Please share with us how you would like to be become involved in serving Peace by completing our volunteer form or contacting the church office at 608-849-7322 or peace@nullpeaceinwaunakee.org.
