Nick Utphall and Ellen Lindgren from Advent Lutheran Church in Madison will be sharing how their faith community is actively engaged in promoting peace. Advent Lutheran Church is known as a leader in the Dane County community related to advocating for the vulnerable—the homeless, the hungry, the impoverished, etc. For many years the Advent community has grown a garden and not only provided their lower income neighbors with fresh vegetables, but have empowered those neighbors, adults & children, to volunteer in the gardening process to learn about gardening as well as help them learn how these vegetables might be used for cooking/menu planning. Now they have engaged in other areas of peace making including active participation in the Dane County Jail Ministry. How do we make a difference in one another’s lives by empowering one another to grow…and listening and learning about the other’s real life stories?
