At its meeting on November 29, 2018, the Council voted to hold a brief congregational meeting at 10:15 AM on Sunday, December 16 for the purpose of 1.) Updating the Congregation on events of this year including a fiscal report for the short year that ended June 30, 2018, the Youth and Family Pastor Initiative, the Facilities Task Force status on projects, and the Call Process; as well as
2.) voting on becoming a Reconciling in Christ congregation.
Becoming a Reconciling in Christ congregation is a more formal way of joining other congregations along with our Synod to say that we welcome all people to participate in the congregation and worship life of Peace Lutheran Church including the LGBTQ community. It is a symbol widely recognized as being an affirming, inclusive, safe place for all to worship. Our Synod, the South Central Synod of Wisconsin, is a Reconciling in Christ synod as are many congregations within it. Our council voted unanimously at its September 10 meeting to become a Reconciling in Christ congregation. Our original thought was to hold a congregational vote on this as we voted on a call process candidate. However, as we prepare for pastoral candidates to interview, this is an important recognition to have determined.
A flyer that gives more information is available in the Narthex and a brief forum will be held on Wednesday, December 5th following worship as well as Sunday, December 9 following worship for anyone who has questions and would like to know more about the process.
